California Academy of Family Physicians Endorses Dr. Jasmeet Bains for Assembly

In the latest display of the growing momentum behind her candidacy, the California Academy of Family Physicians has endorsed Dr. Jasmeet Bains for State Assembly, her campaign announced today.

Dr. Shannon Connolly, President of CAFP, said: “The California Academy of Family Physicians is proud to endorse Dr. Jasmeet Bains for State Assembly. With so much at stake in the wake of COVID-19 and so many families in need of reliable, affordable health care, we know Dr. Bains is the best choice to serve the Valley and all Californians in the Legislature. In the Assembly, Dr. Bains will be a tireless champion for families and ensure everyone gets the health care they deserve.”

CAFP is the only statewide organization solely dedicated to advancing the specialty of family medicine in the state. Since 1948, CAFP has championed the cause of family physicians and their patients. CAFP is critically important to primary care, with a strong collective voice of more than 10,000 family physician, family medicine resident and medical student members. CAFP is the largest primary care medical society in California and the largest chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. Jasmeet Bains said: “I am incredibly honored to receive the strong support of the California Academy of Family Physicians. As a family doctor, I know that the challenges we face now and as we continue to navigate the pandemic require steady, thoughtful and bold leadership. In the Assembly, I will never stop fighting for our Valley and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to get the quality, affordable health care they deserve.”

CAFP’s endorsement comes on the heels of the Kern County Medical Society and California Medical Association throwing the full weight of their support behind Dr. Bains. In recent weeks, Senator Melissa Hurtado (D-Sanger) and pediatrician and Senator Dr. Richard Pan (D-Sacramento) have also endorsed Dr. Bains, and her campaign recently announced raising over $120,000 in the first month since she announced her candidacy.

Dr. Bains is running for State Assembly in the newly redrawn 35th Assembly District. The primary election will be held on June 7, 2022.
