California Federation of Teachers Endorses Dr. Jasmeet Bains for Congress

DELANO, CA - Today, Dr. Jasmeet Bains announced  the endorsement of the California Federation of Teachers (CFT) in her campaign for California’s 22nd Congressional District, representing 120,000 educational employees statewide. The endorsement joins a growing coalition of organized labor unions supporting Dr. Bains, including the Laborers' International Union of North America (LiUNA), Local 220, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), IBEW Local 428, the United Brothers of Carpenters, and SEIU California.

“I am honored to earn the endorsement of the California Federation of Teachers and the thousands of  dedicated teachers, education workers, and staff they represent.,” said Dr. Jasmeet Bains. “Education, like practicing medicine, is done in service of our entire community and I have tremendous respect for the tireless work our educators do to ensure  student success and provide opportunities for our next generation here in the Central Valley. In Congress, I will always fight for the  voices of our educators to be heard, respected and supported.”

“Dr. Jasmeet Bains understands that strong public schools are the foundation of strong communities, and she has consistently fought to invest in students, educators, classified professionals, and the services they need,” CFT President Jeffery Freitas said. “From expanding access to health care to standing up for working families, she shares our commitment to ensuring every student, no matter where they live, has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.”

Dr. Bains’ campaign for Congress is also endorsed by EMILY’s List, AAPI Victory Fund, Elect Democratic Women, ASPIRE PAC, Healthcare for Action, New Dem Action Fund, FamMed Pac, NUHW, Delano Police Officers Association, and the Bakersfield Professional Firefighters Association. Bains is also backed by eleven members of the California Congressional Delegation, and dozens of community advocates and civic leaders.

About Dr. Jasmeet Bains

Dr. Jasmeet Bains is a Central Valley family doctor and State Assemblymember who has spent her life fighting for working families. The daughter of immigrants and a Delano native, she served on the frontlines of California wildfires and the COVID-19 pandemic before winning office in 2022. In Sacramento, she’s delivered results —securing $20 million to enhance public safety and tackle Kern County’s fentanyl crisis. She continues to lead the fight for more affordable and accessible healthcare, clean water, and dignity for vulnerable Californians, all while still treating patients at her hometown clinic on weekends.

California’s 22nd Congressional District spans parts of Kern, Tulare, Kings, Fresno and Madera Counties — including many communities Dr. Bains already represents in the State Assembly.
