ABOUT

Dr. Jasmeet Bains

Dr. Jasmeet Bains isn't a career politician. She’s a family doctor who has dedicated her life to caring for working families, confronting health inequities, and showing up when it matters most.

Raised in Delano, the daughter of first-generation immigrants, Dr. Bains watched her parents build a life from the ground up. Her father worked as a mechanic while her mother was a bookkeeper. Together, they taught Dr. Bains the values that still guide her today: service, sacrifice, and standing up for what’s right – no matter the odds.

After medical school, Dr. Bains came home, determined to practice medicine in the community that raised her. She completed her residency at Clinica Sierra Vista, treating patients who often had nowhere else to turn — parents battling chronic illness, children with asthma, veterans fighting addiction. She fought to expand access to healthcare in communities where she was often the only doctor around.

When disaster struck, Dr. Bains didn’t hesitate. During California’s devastating wildfires, she deployed as Chief Medical Officer for the Central Valley with the California Medical Assistance Team, setting up field hospitals and providing emergency care to evacuees and firefighters. When COVID-19 hit, she was on the front lines, organizing surge hospitals across the Valley to keep families safe.

In 2022, she brought that same urgency to the State Legislature. Representing the 35th Assembly District, Dr. Bains has delivered real results:

  • Secured over $20 million to fight fentanyl addiction and drug trafficking

  • Led the effort to build a UC medical school in Kern County

  • Cut taxes for working moms and veterans

  • Opposed new gas taxes and higher energy prices

She’s never backed down from tough fights — because she knows what’s at stake.

Dr. Bains is a fierce advocate for the most vulnerable. She’s partnered with nonprofits to combat human trafficking and child exploitation, championed clean water for people and farms, fought for rural health equity, and stood up for vulnerable children and seniors alike. As Chair of the Assembly’s Aging and Long-term Care Committee, she is leading the charge for dignity, safety, and services for older Californians.

Her record hasn’t gone unnoticed. She’s been named Legislator of the Year by CalPACE, the Alzheimer’s Association, and Crime Victims United; honored by the American Sikh Council for breaking barriers; and recognized as Physician of the Year by the Kern County Black Chamber of Commerce.

But for Dr. Bains, this work isn’t about the recognition. It’s about the impact. It's about fighting for the people who are too often overlooked, and proving that the Central Valley deserves leaders who work as hard as the people who live here.

Because for Dr. Jasmeet Bains, this isn’t politics – it’s personal.
