Dr. Jasmeet Bains Announces Powerful Wave of Endorsements from Labor Unions and Members of Congress
DELANO, CA — Less than a week after launching her campaign for Congress in California’s 22nd District, frontline physician and State Assemblymember Dr. Jasmeet Bains is announcing a broad and diverse coalition of endorsements — signaling strong momentum and wide-ranging support for her campaign to unseat Republican Rep. David Valadao.
Dr. Bains’ early endorsements show deep bipartisan support in the district and span the full breadth of California’s Democratic leadership in Congress, with backing from leading members of the Asian Pacific American, Latino, and Women’s Caucuses — as well as leaders in the local labor movement and frontline and swing district fighters who know what it takes to win in the Central Valley.
Rep. Adam Gray (CA-13):
“I know what it takes to win tough races in the Central Valley — and I know Jasmeet Bains has what it takes to do it too. She’s a doctor, a fighter, and a champion for the working families who too often get left behind in Washington. I’m proud to stand with Jasmeet because she knows how to build coalitions, deliver results, and put this Valley first — every single day.”
Rep. Luz Rivas (CA-29):
"As a Latina and a woman in Congress, I know how important it is to have more voices like Dr. Jasmeet Bains at the table. She’s a barrier-breaker, a dedicated public servant, and exactly the kind of leader we need fighting for California’s families. I’m proud to support her."
Rep. Laura Friedman (CA-30):
“Dr. Jasmeet Bains understands that leadership means: listening to, and fighting like hell for, the communities you serve. From the floor of the State Assembly to the clinic where she continues treating patients, she’s shown up for families when they needed her most. Congress needs more leaders with Dr. Bains' integrity, courage, and compassion.”
Rep. Dave Min (CA-47):
“Dr. Bains represents the best of California: smart, pragmatic, and deeply committed to the people she serves. She’s never been afraid to take on tough fights or stand up for what’s right, whether for her patients or her constituents. In a time when fundamental health care is under attack more than ever before, I’m excited to support the doctor in this race and can’t wait to welcome her to Congress.”
Rep. Judy Chu (CA-28):
“As Chair Emerita of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus and a longtime leader with ASPIRE PAC, I know how vital it is to elect leaders who reflect our diverse communities and deliver for working families. Dr. Jasmeet Bains has broken barriers in medicine and public service, and I know she’ll bring that same dedication and determination to Congress. I’m honored to support her.”
Rep. Ami Bera (CA‑06):
"As a fellow physician and someone who’s fought to defend the Affordable Care Act, I know Jasmeet Bains will be a strong voice for accessible, high-quality healthcare in Congress. She’s smart, pragmatic, and deeply committed to public service— exactly what our communities need in these times. I’m proud to stand with her as she brings her expertise and compassion to DC."
Rep. Julia Brownley (CA‑26):
“Dr. Jasmeet Bains has demonstrated the leadership, integrity, and deep community roots we need in federal office. As a Representative who’s spent years advocating for families and public health, I’m excited by the chance to work alongside Dr. Bains — because she’ll deliver mainstream solutions that lift everyone up.”
Rep. Norma Torres (CA-35):
"As a former 9-1-1 dispatcher, I know what it means to serve on the front lines for our communities—and so does Dr. Jasmeet Bains. She’s cared for patients in under-resourced clinics, stood with working families in the State Assembly, and fought for safer, healthier neighborhoods in the Central Valley. Jasmeet understands that public health, public safety, and workers’ rights are all connected—and she’ll be a relentless advocate for all three in Congress. I’m proud to endorse her."
Two of California’s most prominent labor unions are also endorsing Dr. Bains: SEIU California, representing healthcare, child care, and public service workers, and IBEW Local 428, the Central Valley’s electrical workers union.
SEIU California:
“Dr. Jasmeet Bains is SEIU members’ choice for Congress because she’s fighting for our lives, our kids’ healthcare, and home care our seniors need to thrive. Growing up in the Valley, Dr. Bains knows that we struggle with the basics other regions take for granted – being able to take your kids to the doctor when they’re sick, or have an emergency room nearby when the worst case scenario becomes your reality. David Valadao’s vote for $1 trillion in health care cuts will make things worse and result in preventable deaths. We need a leader like Jasmeet in Congress – someone who is fighting for the people in the Central Valley, not billionaires, and we’ll be working hard every day to make sure she wins.
IBEW Local 428:
"IBEW Local 428 is proud to endorse Dr. Jasmeet Bains for Congress. As an advocate for working families, a trusted community leader, and a professional who understands the value of good jobs and strong labor protections, Dr. Bains is exactly the kind of leader we need in Washington. We look forward to working with her to build an economy that puts workers and their families first."
“I’m proud to have the support of the people who power our movement — frontline workers and fighters for justice in Congress,” said Dr. Bains. “This campaign is about delivering for the Valley, and I’m ready to bring our voices to Washington.”
Dr. Bains is a family and addiction doctor, daughter of immigrants, and the first Sikh American elected to the California Legislature who continues to serve patients at her hometown clinic in Delano. She is running to defeat Republican Rep. David Valadao, who voted for the largest cuts to Medi-Cal and public health in American history.
