ICYMI: Wall Street Journal Spotlights Dr. Jasmeet Bains, a Physician Taking on Valadao’s Health Care Cuts
DELANO, CA — Dr. Jasmeet Bains, a family physician and candidate for California’s 22nd Congressional District, was featured in The Wall Street Journal as part of a growing wave of doctors running for Congress, driven by David Valadao and House Republicans’ reckless votes to cut Medicaid and jeopardize health care access in her community.
The article spotlights the urgent health care crisis facing the Central Valley – “one of the poorest in the state – [where] roughly two-thirds of residents are enrolled in Medicaid” – and where Valadao’s votes have put lifesaving care at risk.
“‘I used to transfer people from private insurance to Medicaid,’ [Dr. Bains] said. ‘But now I’m transferring people from Medicaid to nothing.’ It has pushed her to run for a House seat in California’s 22nd district.”
As a practicing physician, Dr. Bains is running to hold David Valadao accountable for his broken promises on health care. After repeatedly pledging not to gut Medicaid, Valadao cast the deciding vote for the largest cut to Medicaid in history – ripping away coverage from over 68,000 in CA-22 and triggering up to $128 billion in cuts to California health systems.
Valadao represents more Medicaid recipients than any House Republican who voted for the Big, Beautiful Bill. After voting to endanger the Affordable Care Act in 2018, Valadao lost his seat in Congress.
